My Journey Through West Africa

Throughout the coming year I will embark on a journey unlike any other I have been on before. This Journey will take me through the very heart of Sub-Saharan Africa, across to the ancient, intellectual and trading empire of Timbuktu, and through the vast emptiness of the worlds largest, most arid, and beautiful deserts on earth, the Sahara. Along this journey I will be documenting a way of life that has remained unchanged since the dawn of mans existence. I am uncertain of what I will encounter but I intend to capture the world as I see it, from interesting faces and stories to spectacular landscapes and festivals. However, not all of the pictures being posted over the next 12 months or so will appeal to everyone, though I will do my best to capture the beauty that is Africa, I rather use my opportunity to provide a dose of reality. So as I learn about the many wonders of West Africa, and share the world as I see it with you, I will also provide an honest and candid portfolio of the uncertain future many Africans face due to the devastating realities of AIDS, war, and incessant poverty. I am not trying to make a statement nor am I trying to change the world, rather just the way we look at it. So, thanks for looking.

GHANA portfolioThese set of photos were taken at Elmina Castle (Fort), on the Cape Coast of Ghana. It is an incredibly beautiful area, with a torrid past. For centuries, Africans walked through the infamous "door of no return" at Cape Coast castle directly into slave ships, never to set foot in their homelands again.
